[crew names listed on memorial] Who Tragically Lost Their Lives in the Sea Off Skegness in the Early Hours of Monday 28 October 1940 Information Sheet: Propeller from Handley Page Hampden X3027 in the Early Hours of 28th October 1940, Hampden X3027, Coded Ea-a of 49 Squadron Was Returning to RAF Scampton, After Taking Part in a Raid on Hamburg with 15 Other Hampdens. The Crew Were No Doubt Looking Forward to a Well Earned Rest After De-briefing. At the Same Time, Lieutenant Volker of the Luftwaffe, Was Piloting His Junkers 88 Night Fighter of Nr.1 Gruppe, Nr. 3 Nachtjagdgeschwader Between the Coast and the Lincolnshire Airfields in the Hope of Intercepting Returning Bombers. Volker's Ju88 and x3027 Met Somewhere in the Darkness Over Lincolnshire. As a Result of This Encounter, X3027 Crashed into the Sea Off Skegness, with the Loss of the Four Crew Crew of X3027 [crew names listed on memorial]
