What Happened
Ralph Hilton Credland was a sergeant in the RAF Volunteer Reserve from Billingborough who was killed in action. His date of death appears in one source as 28 January 1943 and in another as 28 January 1942; this discrepancy has not been resolved and the crash date field is omitted here to avoid stating an unverified fact. Credland has no known grave; his name is inscribed on the Runnymede Air Forces Memorial, Surrey. His parents arranged for a private memorial to be placed in St Andrew's Church.
Sgt Credland's unit, aircraft type, and loss circumstances have not been recovered from open sources. His squadron and serial number remain unknown pending archive research. The form of the private memorial — described as a font cover in the project's research notes — is a recognised commemorative form in Lincolnshire churches of the period but requires direct verification.
