Squadron History
No. 75 (NZ) Squadron RAF was the principal New Zealand bomber squadron in Bomber Command, formed in April 1940. The squadron flew Wellington, Stirling, and then Lancaster bombers across the full course of the strategic bombing campaign. The squadron's primary long-term base was RAF Mepal near Ely, Cambridgeshire, and a memorial rose garden at the corner of Laurel Close and High Street in Mepal village commemorates those who did not return, dedicated on 26 August 1978 in the presence of 350 veterans. Full Operational Record Books covering 1940–1945, a Roll of Honour by name and by country, and accounts from prisoners of war and evaders are preserved at the squadron's research archive.
