Detailed account of the B-29 Superfortress 44-62276 crash on 17 January 1949. The aircraft of the 301st Bomb Group was returning to Smoky Hill AFB, Kansas, from RAF Scampton after Berlin Airlift duties when it encountered severe icing over Scotland.
Serial 44-62276. All 20 aboard killed. A companion B-29 piloted by Captain Donald E Riggs turned back due to icing; this aircraft continued and struck Stob na Boine Druim-fhinn. Crew had been involved in the Berlin Airlift.
