Dedicated memorial website for Halifax JP137. The aircraft took off from Hurn Aerodrome shortly after 0100 on 21 March 1944 and experienced a serious engine malfunction within the first few minutes of flight. The pilot, 20-year-old Denis Evans, turned to head back following Wimborne Road while flying precariously low. Official reports blamed the pilot, but it is now believed a known Halifax design issue was the primary cause.
