Squadron crest: SQUADRON 466 466 ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE BRAVE AND TRUE Inscription: Halifax III HD-C NR179 466 Squadron RAAF Crashed near this location, (9 miles WNW of Driffield) NR179 took off 3rd March 1945 at 1823 hrs. from RAF Driffield, on a mission to Kamen (Germany). On return to Base, while waiting to land, they were hit by gunfire from a Luftwaffe JU-88 night fighter. NR179 caught fire and crashed at 0110 hrs on 4th March 1945. NR179 Crew (7 Names) This memorial plaque commemorates their ultimate sacrifice and pays tribute to all victims of war. Their Names Liveth Forever More We will remember them Lest We Forget
