What Happened

Wellington LN775, a Mk.X bomber assigned to Bomber Command, was on a flight over southwest England on 1 March 1944 when it came down on the high moorland at Three Barrows, Dartmoor, Devon. The precise cause of the crash is not recorded in available sources, though the exposed terrain and unpredictable weather conditions of Dartmoor presented serious hazards to low-flying aircraft. All four crew members aboard were killed. Fragments of the aircraft remain at the site today, preserved in the moorland landscape as a quiet testament to those lost.
