On 17th January 1942 Stirling Aircraft W7467, of 7 Squadron, RAF, flying from RAF Oakington, collided with a Hurricane Aircraft of No 56 OTU and crashed 1.5 miles north of Earith All crew members were killed (7 Names) These received Christian Burials at Cambridge, Dundee and Thurrock Walter Mankelow, RAFVR, Air-Gnr. and James McCarley, RAFVR, Air-Gnr. are remembered on the Royal Air Force Memorial at Runnymede, as having no known grave The people of Earith, 7 Squadron Association and this Stone remember them Per Diem Per Noctem 7th November 1999
