What Happened
JA907 was a 7 Squadron Pathfinder Lancaster operating from RAF Oakington as part of the Leipzig raid on 20 October 1943. It was shot down by a nightfighter and came down at Oudleusen, a small village in the Dalfsen municipality of Overijssel. Six of the seven crew were killed; the sole survivor, Sgt Lashford, was injured and taken prisoner. The dead were buried at Dalfsen General Cemetery.
7 Squadron's Pathfinder role meant its aircraft carried experienced crews responsible for target marking ahead of the main force. A Dutch heritage researcher has posted an appeal for crew photographs relating to this loss, which suggests ongoing local interest, but crew names beyond the survivor's have not been retrieved from primary sources in the research conducted for this record. The full crew list requires direct consultation of the CWGC database.
