Halifax JB874 (coded EY-E) of 78 Squadron collided with Halifax BB373 (EY-K) at 04:30 on 24 August 1943 over Hull Bridge, Tickton, 2 miles NE of Beverley. Both crews had bombed Berlin and were being diverted -- first to Leconfield, then to Hutton Cranswick. Six of the seven crew of JB874 were killed; one survived. This was a disastrous night for 78 Squadron, which lost five aircraft and thirty-one airmen.
