(RAF Badge) to the Glory of God and in Everlasting Memory of the Gallant Lancaster Bomber Aircrew of 582 Pathfinder Squadron Who Died in a Crash Near This Church on 23 September 1944 [crew names listed on memorial] (582 Pathfinders Badge) 582 Pathfinders Squadron No. 582 Squadron was formed on 1 April 1944 at Little Staughton from detachments of Nos. 7 and 156 Squadrons. As part of No. 8 (Pathfinder) Group, it became operational on 9th April and continued bombing and target marking missions for the rest of the war. On 18th September 1945, the squadron was disbanded.
